What better way to escape the the Coastal fog (yes, June Gloom is here) than a quick jaunt up Carmel Valley Road to taste a little wine. Spontaneity is good, but so is tried and true. So we took the group on a spontaneous trip to Carmel Valley Village, and a stop at Joullian Vineyards tasting room. Joulian never disappoints, and has something for all tastes. Due to the winery’s remote location, Joullian opened its tasting room in the charming Carmel Valley Village to help introduce visitors to Joullian wines.
The tasting room is located in the heart of Carmel Valley Village, just 1/2 block south of Carmel Valley Road upon the west entrance to the village. This quaint little Village plays host to a myriad of fine hotels, lodgings, restaurants, specialty shops and other local winery tasting rooms.
Joullian Vineyards specializes in estate-produced Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel and Monterey appellation Chardonnay. The 2013 Family Reserve Sauvignon Blanc which is a blend of rich, ripe Sauvignon Blanc with juicy pomelo flavors and low sugar, crisp Semillon to boost minerality-then topped off with a dollop of Viognier for aromatic intrigue and complexity. Yes it is! Our white favorite at the moment.
One of our other favorites was the great drinking nice bold fruity zin, that drinks well now and will stand the test of time with a few years in the bottle. This just so happens to also a winner of a Best in Class in the 2014 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition! Rates 6+ and **** on the K&K scale. Purchased a bottle to take home, but there's a good chance it won't get to age more than a few days! So go and get your own bottle, and taste the other nice wines on offer. And tell 'em Kiwi and Koala sent you.
